David Blaine has broken his contract with America. Mr. Blaine promised either he'd hold his breath longer than any other human ever, or we'd see a real life drowning on prime time TV.
This was his deal... and he failed to deliver.
The "magician" had a two-hour spectacular on ABC Monday night. I watched. I must admit, I was impressed with the spectacle - and while holding your breath for over 7 minutes is really something, this event turned into nothing more than performance art.
Intermingled with the shots of a water-magnified Blaine in the human aquarium, we were treated to some of the least impressive/believable "street magic" one could imagine.
We were to believe Mr. Blaine pulled out a young woman's teeth and then blew them back in place?? Then there was a "trick" (I assume it was supposed to be a trick) involving two comely women at a Las Vegas casino. Mr. Blaine takes the women to a roulette wheel and his mere presence leads to the women winning $3,200.
One wonders if Monday's failure will lead to Mr. Blaine "disappearing" from network TV forever.
Did you guys watch? What did you think?
